Petrol-Diesel at record level: Government oil companies have released the price of petrol and diesel for Sunday. Petrol had crossed Rs 100 per liter in many cities. Now the price of diesel has also crossed Rs.00 in Sriganga Nagar, Rajasthan.
Oil companies release the prices of petrol and diesel every day at 6 am.
After two consecutive days of increase, the common man has got relief on the petrol-diesel front. Oil companies have not increased the prices today (Sunday, 13 June 2021). However, due to the increase in the prices of petrol and diesel from May 4, the prices have reached a record level. The price of petrol per liter had already crossed Rs 100. Now diesel has also hit a century in Sriganga Nagar of Rajasthan. Last week, the Union Oil Minister had blamed the hike in petrol and diesel on crude oil prices. India imports more than 80 percent of its crude oil requirement. Therefore, the price of crude oil in the international market also puts it on petrol and diesel in the domestic market.
Even at the domestic level, the central and state governments levy taxes on petrol and diesel heavily. For example, in the capital Delhi, the central government charges Rs 32.90 per liter of petrol as excise duty. Delhi government charges Rs 21.80 as VAT. Similarly, on every one liter of diesel, excise duty of Rs 31.80 goes to the center and Rs 12.50 to the Delhi government.
Oil companies fix a base price based on the price of crude oil. After this, transportation charges, tax, dealer commission are also charged on it. It is the cost of transportation to the petrol pump, due to which the cost of petrol and diesel varies in different cities.
