How to keep Papankusha Ekadashi fast

The devotee should observe the fast of Papankusha Ekadashi, which gives the blessings of Lord Shri Hari, with full devotion and faith. On this day, after getting up in Brahma Muhurta, after bathing and meditating, first of all, after meditating on Shri Hari Vishnu, he should take a vow to complete the fast. After this, after placing the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu on a yellow cloth, bathe him with the law and worship him. Yellow flowers and yellow fruits must be offered in the worship of Lord Vishnu.

Take special care of these things in fasting

One who observes this fast should not take food in the night before the day of Ekadashi. Similarly, food should not be taken even on the day of fasting. Only fruit should be eaten during the day. It is better not to consume rice a day before and a day after the fast. To get rid of sins, on the night of Papankusha Ekadashi, one should do bhajan-kirtan singing the glory of Lord Vishnu. On the second day of Papankusha fast, eat food yourself only after feeding a Brahmin.

It is believed that once upon a time there used to be a fowler named Krodhan on Vindhya mountain. That fowler was of a very wicked nature. When his end time came near, Yamraj’s messengers signaled him for it. When that evil fowler came to know about his remaining life, he ran to the shelter of Maharishi Angira to save his life. Then Maharishi Angira told him about the fast of Papakunsha Ekadashi to get rid of all sins and asked him to do it with reverence. After this, that fowler performed Papankusha fast with full law and with full devotion and faith and all his sins were removed and in the end he attained salvation by the grace of Lord Vishnu.
