All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIMParty President Asaduddin Owaisi (Asaduddin Owaisi) said on Sunday that his party is open to an alliance with any party except two national parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress, for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections to be held early next year. Apart from this, the AIMIM chief also said that there is widespread resentment against the BJP and if the opposition wants to defeat the ruling party then it should come together.
Reiterating his earlier stand on the alliance, Owaisi also said that the AIMIM is a part of the Partnership Sankalp Morcha, the political front of regional parties in the state. He said, “We are part of OP Rajbhar’s participatory Sankalp Morcha. We also had two meetings with Shivpal Yadav at his residence. We have told both OP Rajbhar and Shivpal Yadav that we are ready for an alliance with any party except BJP-Congress.”
He also said that it would be beneficial for the opposition to contest elections together and hit out at the ruling BJP, saying the party has failed. He said, ‘There is resentment against BJP in the whole of UP, we believe that if this anger is to be converted into BJP’s defeat, then we have to face them together. BJP proved to be a failure on all issues of governance. If we fight elections together, it will be beneficial.”
OP Rajbhar had talked about alliance with BJP
However, on 15 October, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar had said that he may forge an alliance with the BJP. However, now his own alliance partner Owaisi has made his stand clear regarding this.
Rajbhar had said, “Bhagidari Sankalp Morcha was formed on the basis of various issues in the society. Whichever party will accept those issues, we will go with them.” Also, Rajbhar said that he will take a final call in this matter and an announcement to this effect will be made on October 27. On that day he is scheduled to hold a rally in Mau district.
AIMIM will fight on 100 seats
In early June this year, Owaisi had announced that his party would contest 100 seats out of the total 403 assembly constituencies in UP and had also confirmed his alliance with the Morcha. He also called upon all like-minded parties to come together to stop the BJP. In the 2017 assembly elections in the state, BJP had registered a thumping victory in 312 seats.
