Yashwant Sinha has been made by the opposition as its candidate for the President. After this, he will also appeal to Lalu Prasad’s party to vote in his favor. Even though both are on the same stage today, there were discussions about their political rivalry with Lalu Prasad.
Yashwant Sinha, the old BJP leader and Finance Minister in the NDA government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has been made its candidate for the President by the opposition, Yashwant Sinha may be raising the flag against the BJP, but he has never been a big leader of this BJP. Used to be a leader. He got political identity from BJP itself. He was the big face of BJP in United Bihar. Yashwant Sinha has been the state president of Bihar BJP. Yashwant Sinha, who was made the opposition’s presidential candidate, is a Bihari by birth. He was born in Buxar district of Bihar. At the same time, his politics has also flourished here. From job to politics, his roots are related to Bihar.
Yashwant Sinha was a bureaucrat before joining politics. He has been an officer of the Indian Administrative Service. Sinha was the personal secretary of socialist leader and Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur. Impressed by Karpoori Thakur, he left his administrative service job and joined politics.
Political journey started with Janata Party
He started his political innings with the Janata Party. He was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1988. During 1990-1991, he became the Finance Minister in Chandrashekhar’s government. But he got the biggest political recognition as the MLA of Bihar Legislative Assembly where he used to attack Lalu Prasad’s government with his facts and logic. Yashwant Sinha had reached the assembly after winning the election from Ranchi on a BJP ticket in 1995. Bihar was not divided then. Political experts say that at that time, MLAs used to refrain from speaking against Lalu Prasad in the House, but Yashwant Sinha made a direct attack on Lalu’s government on the poor law and order situation in the state. And ask sharp questions in the house.
‘Learned politics from Chandrashekhar’
Bihar’s senior journalist Praveen Baghi says that Yashwant Sinha came into politics after being influenced by JP and Karpoori Thakur. He learned politics from Chandrashekhar and when Chandrashekhar’s government was formed, he was given an important ministry like the Finance Ministry. When he reached the assembly in 1995, he made a scathing attack on Lalu Prasad in the name of corruption and law and order. Then it used to be difficult for Lalu Prasad to answer Yashwant Sinha’s questions. And he did this when no MLA raised his voice against Lalu in the House.
Old feud with Lalu
Actually he had an old feud with Lalu Prasad. When Yashwant Sinha came to Patna to contest the 1991 mid-term elections, Lalu Prasad had imported Inder Kumar Gujral from Punjab to defeat him. Lalu Prasad did not want to allow him to be established in Patna under any circumstances. This was the reason that he fielded Indra Kumar Gujral against him by calling him a Yadav. There was no victory or defeat in this election because later the election was canceled.
Big leaders of Bihar BJP
Yashwant Sinha became the first national spokesperson after joining BJP. He became the State President of Bihar BJP and the leader of the BJP Legislature Party in the Vidhan Sabha. After the formation of Jharkhand, he started contesting elections from Hazaribagh. He has a big contribution in the development of Hazaribagh.
