Some BJP MLAs walked out of the assembly to protest against the suspension of three of their colleagues in the Vidhan Sabha (Odisha Assembly) and staged a sit-in under the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

In Odisha Legislative Assembly, on Saturday, some BJP MLAs allegedly slapped slippers, earphones and papers on the Speaker of the Assembly, Surya Narayan Patra, due to which three BJP MLAs were suspended from this session. All three BJP MLAs – Jai Narayan Mishra, Vishnu Sethi and Mohan Majhi. The MLAs have been suspended for throwing slippers and other things towards the Assembly Speaker’s seat.
This incident happened when the House passed the Odisha Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill in a hurry within a few minutes without discussion. The Speaker has issued the ruling to leave the house while suspending these three MLAs. The Odisha Legislative Speaker said that these three MLAs have been suspended from the House for this session after watching the video footage. After this, BJP MLAs walked out of the assembly to protest against the suspension of their three allies in the assembly and staged a sit-in under the Mahatma Gandhi statue.
‘We will sit all night on dharna’: BJP MLA
BJP MLAs continued their sit-in on Saturday night as well. BJP MLAs, including a woman member Kusum Tete, had dinner and continued to picket at night as well. Speaker SN Patro himself came and requested them to end the protest, but even after this, these MLAs continued their protest. Leader of Opposition PK Naik said, “The Speaker has unnecessarily suspended our MLAs without giving them a chance to speak.” We will sit on a dharna under the open sky all night and hold a press conference tomorrow.
Budget session of the state assembly postponed
BJP MLA Mukesh Mahaling said, “We will sit on dharna all night.” The speaker is treating this matter with carelessness. We will meet the Governor and raise our concerns. ” Meanwhile, the budget session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly (Budget session) Was postponed indefinitely on Saturday, five days ahead of its scheduled time. The House has been adjourned after the CAG report was presented to the House by Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari. The chairman announced the end of the second phase of the budget session that began on March 12, though the session was to last until April 9. The first phase of the session started on 18 February and continued till 27 February.

Regarding the incident in the assembly, BJP MLA Vishnu Sethi said that ‘BJP MLAs were opposing the activities of the Speaker, as they did not allow Leader of Opposition PK Naik to speak in the House.’ Earlier, Speaker SN Patra had rejected the Congress notice to discuss the alleged corruption in mining activities, after which the Congress MLA protested and came in the middle of the House and started making noise. BJP MLAs supported the Congress.
