Odisha: Four contractual employees of DRDO arrested for giving confidential information to Pakistani agents, objectionable items also recovered

Four contract employees of DRDO’s Integrated Test Range in Odisha’s Balasore district were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly passing confidential information to suspected Pakistani agents. Police gave this information. Inspector General of Police (Eastern Division) Himanshu Kumar Lal said that initially the four were interrogated by taking them into custody and after questioning they were arrested.

Balasore police issued a statement saying that this action has been taken on the basis of intelligence inputs, which said that some people are wrongly or knowingly giving confidential information related to defense to foreign agents who appear to be Pakistani. They (agents) are being contacted through various ISD phone numbers.

Police teams formed

It said that several police teams were formed comprising officers of the rank of Deputy Superintendents of Police and Inspectors and after the raids, contractual employees of the Integrated Test Range of Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) at Chandipur were arrested. They are accused of passing confidential information to foreign agents and receiving pecuniary benefits in return, the statement said.

According to the police, several incriminating materials have also been recovered from them. A case has been registered against the four at Chandipur police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Official Secrets Act, the statement said. DRDO officials refused to comment on this and said that the police is investigating these allegations. Earlier in 2014, contract cinematographer Ishwar Behera in Balasore was accused of leaking confidential information related to the testing center. was caught on the charge. On February 11, the Sessions Court sentenced him to life imprisonment.
