Describing Tamil as the ‘language of God’, the Madras High Court has said that consecration in temples across the country should be done through the compositions of Arunagirinathar, Tamil hymns composed by saints like Ajvar and Nayanmar. In a recent order, a bench of Justices N Kirubakaran and B Pugalendhi said that in our country it was made to believe that only Sanskrit is the language of God.
The bench said that different countries and religions have different beliefs and places of worship also change according to culture and religion. He said, ‘The local language is used in those places for the work related to God, but in our country a belief was made that only Sanskrit is the language of God and no other language is equivalent to it.’
Every language is the language of God – court
The bench said, “Sanskrit is the ancient language in which many ancient literatures have been composed, there is no doubt about it, but the belief was made in such a way that God would listen to the prayers of his followers only when they read the Sanskrit Vedas.” Will recite. The high court was hearing a plea seeking directions to government officials to conduct consecration with recitations of Tirumuraikal, Tamil Saiva Mantaram and Saint Amaravati Atrangarai Karurar at a temple in the state’s Karur district. The judges said that every language spoken by the people is the language of God.
‘Tamil language is associated with gods’
