The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Saturday conducted raids in Bandra, Andheri and Powai areas of Mumbai as part of its campaign against drug smugglers. An official gave this information. The official said that on the basis of a tip-off, various teams of NCB’s Mumbai regional unit are conducting operations.
“The operation started in the morning and is still on,” he said. Two weeks ago, a team of the agency led by regional director of the bureau, Sameer Wankhede, raided the Cordelia cruise from Mumbai coast to Goa, allegedly confiscating drugs. Many people, including Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, were arrested in this case. Last Saturday, NCB raided the residence and office of filmmaker Imtiaz Khatri in suburban Bandra.
Drug smuggler sentenced to 10 years
A special NDPS court here sentenced a man to ten years’ imprisonment for drug trafficking, saying drug smugglers are dangerous to the society and the youth in particular. The court gave this decision in the case of finding drugs from the convict at the international airport in 2004.
Special Judge AA Joglekar sentenced 53-year-old Ibrahim Ali Khan to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh, holding him guilty of various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Customs Act.
The judge underlined in the judgment, “The crime proved against the accused is definitely a social threat. Due to their involvement in drug trafficking, drug traffickers and traders are dangerous for the whole society and especially the youth.
