These days the holy festival of Navratri is going on. In this nine-day long festival, Goddess Durga is duly worshiped for nine days. During this time there is great enthusiasm among the people. There is a lot of enthusiasm in the markets and pandals too. Devotees come to the pandal to worship Goddess Durga and worship Goddess Durga. During this worship, Bhandara of the mother is also done, which is in the form of prasad and it is eaten by the devotees.
Kanya Pujan is a popular Hindu sacred ritual performed on the eighth and ninth days of the Navratri festival. This year the Ashtami Tithi and Navami Tithi of Shardiya Navratri are falling on 13th October and 14th October.
Hindus believe that little girls are the most auspicious and pure souls, have big feminine potential and are therefore considered an incarnation of Maa Durga. As a mark of respect to Mother Durga, a ritual is performed to welcome the nine Kanjakas. On this day devotees wash their feet, apply roli on their forehead and give them food, gifts and cash.
To celebrate this auspicious day, special food is prepared without onion and garlic to be served to the girls. On this day, dishes are of utmost importance which includes spicy dishes and a sweet one. Kanya Bhoj is considered sacred and hence it is prepared with devotion and purity.
Made from whole wheat flour. It is prepared and served with halwa on Kanya Puja.
It is a special Indian sweet which is a delicious dish made of semolina, ghee and sugar.
Black gram known as black gram or Bengal gram is a traditional preparation for Kanya Puja. It is rich in protein and is a very tasty low fat dish. Garlic and onions should be avoided.
Some people also make Kheer to be served on Kanya Puja. This is a famous Indian sweet, which is made from milk, rice, sugar. Dried fruits and saffron are optional to add.
Boiled potatoes are prepared with ghee and all the spices. Onion and garlic should not be consumed.
