Some people do not even know the reason for this, just by looking at others and citing religious rules, they do so. So here we are going to tell you why the consumption of onion and garlic is stopped during Navratri.
In Hindu scriptures, a person has been advised to lead a sattvik life because food also affects our state of mind. That is why it is said that ‘like food, so mind’. Sattvic food keeps the mind calm and stable, while tamasic food distracts the mind. Onion and garlic are also considered as tamasic food. Since the days of Navratri are the days of worship of the mother, in such a situation, the tamasic food disturbs the mind and creates obstacles in the worship of the mother.
makes the mind restless
Due to the tamasic properties in onion and garlic, it makes the mind fickle. Does not allow to concentrate in one place. Apart from this, by consuming onion-garlic, the sensual energy of the person starts awakening and the mind of the person is attracted towards enjoyment and luxury. Whereas during fasting and sadhana, it has been said to keep one’s senses under control and control the mind. This is the reason why it has been advised not to eat onion-garlic for nine days.
The story related to the churning of the ocean is also prevalent
According to the legend, when Lord Vishnu distributing the nectar that came out during the churning of the ocean, distributing the nectar among the deities, then a demon named Swarabhanu sat among the gods and consumed the nectar after churning the ocean. When Lord Vishnu came to know about this, he severed Swarabhanu’s head from his torso. After the separation of the head from the trunk, the head of Swarabhanu was called Rahu and the torso was called Ketu. On separation from the head, two drops of nectar fell on the earth, from which onion and garlic were produced. Being derived from nectar, both these things are considered very beneficial for health. But they originated through demons, so they are considered impure and are not included in the work of worship.
