IPS officer Rupin Sharma had also shared pictures of the fire in the vehicles and wrote that after the incident, the local people set some vehicles of the security forces on fire.
Villagers set fire to vehicles
At least 11 people were killed in Nagaland’s Mon district, allegedly by security forces, on Saturday, following which the situation in the area became tense. Sources said that the incident took place in Oting village of Mon district, where the victim villagers were returning home in a pick-up truck. The incident came to light when the villagers killed in the incident could not reach their homes on time.
Angry villagers set fire to vehicles of security forces after seeing the bodies of people. Many have also been injured in the incident. News agency PTI has confirmed the death of 11 people in the firing. At the same time, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio appealed to the people for peace and said that the investigation of the incident will be done by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Condemning the incident, the Chief Minister tweeted this morning, “The unfortunate incident of killing of civilians in Mon Ke Oting is highly condemnable. I express my deepest sympathies to the families of the victims. I wish the injured people a speedy recovery. High level SIT will investigate the matter and justice will be done as per law. I appeal for peace from all sections.”

Expressing grief over the incident, Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, “Saddened by the unfortunate incident at Mon Ke Oting in Nagaland. I express my deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. A high-level SIT team constituted by the state government will investigate the incident. So that justice can be done to the bereaved families.”
While issuing a statement on the incident, the Ministry of Defense said that a soldier has also died. According to the statement, “Based on strong intelligence received about the armed insurgents, the operation was carried out by the security forces in Tiru area of Mon district. The situation after the incident is quite regrettable. The unfortunate deaths of people are being investigated at the highest level and appropriate action will be taken as per law. One jawan injured in the incident died.”

At the same time, the Indian Army has ordered a Court of Inquiry to investigate the incident. The army said in a statement that the security forces personnel were also injured in the violence by the villagers after the death of the people. The army said that people had died during the ambush.
State IPS officer Rupin Sharma, while sharing the video of the incident on Twitter, wrote that there is news of the death of many civilians in Oting village. However, he later deleted the video. He had also shared pictures of the fire in the vehicles and wrote that after the incident, the local people set some vehicles of the security forces on fire.
