Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Modi) wrote a blog dedicated to her mother on the occasion of her 100th birthday on Saturday. In this blog, he mentioned the sacrifices of his mother and such aspects of her life, which shaped PM Modi’s self-confidence, mind and personality. After reaching Gandhinagar, Prime Minister Modi met his mother Heeraben and took her blessings. PM Modi wrote in the blog that his mother always inspired him to take a strong resolve for the welfare of the poor and focus towards it, which is the purpose of many welfare schemes of his government. This blog of PM Modi is present in many regional languages apart from Hindi and English.
The PM said that when the BJP selected him as the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001, his mother was very happy. Mother Hiraben had said that, I do not understand your work in the government, but all I want is that you should never take bribe. The PM said that his mother finds happiness in the happiness of other people and she is very big hearted. The PM recalled that his father had brought his son Abbas home after the untimely demise of his close friend. He said, in a way, Abbas studied by staying in our house. Like all of us children, mother used to take great care of Abbas too. On Eid, mother used to prepare dishes of her choice for Abbas. During festivals, some children from nearby used to come and eat food at our place. He also loved the food made by my mother.
My mother is as ordinary as she is extraordinary.
PM Modi said, in this journey of my mother’s life, I see the tenacity, sacrifice and contribution of the entire mother power of the country. When I look at the potential of my mother and crores of women like her, I do not see any such goal which is impossible for the sisters and daughters of India. PM Modi wrote in the blog, My mother is as ordinary as she is extraordinary. Just like every mother is. PM Modi mentioned that so far this has happened only twice, when his mother has been with him in any public program. The Prime Minister said, “Once, when I had returned after unfurling the tricolor at Lal Chowk in Srinagar after the Ekta Yatra, my mother had come on stage and commented on me at the civil honor program held in Ahmedabad.
The PM said, for the second time, Mother Heeraben had come with me publicly when I took oath as the Chief Minister for the first time. PM Modi said that his mother gave him a lesson in life that it is possible to learn even without taking formal education. He said that he once wanted to publicly honor all his teachers, including his mother, his greatest teacher, but his mother refused and said that he was a normal person.
‘Hiraba faced many difficulties in childhood’
In his blog, Modi wrote that his mother said, I am only an instrument. It was written that you were born from my womb. You are not me, God has created you. The PM wrote that although my mother did not come to that function, she made sure that she invites someone from the family of Jethabhai Joshi, her local teacher who taught her alphabet. PM Modi said, I have always seen in my mother how one is really educated even without the knowledge of alphabets. His approach to thinking, his far-sightedness, amazes me at times. The PM said that his mother faced many difficulties in her childhood after losing her mother at a very young age. His mother does not remember his mother’s face or even her lap, as he spent his entire childhood without him.
The Prime Minister recalled that his family lived in a tiny house made of mud walls and thatched roof. He told how his mother faced difficulties everyday and got a successful victory over them. PM Modi said, in the rain, sometimes water used to drip from here in our house, sometimes from there. The whole house should not be filled with water, the walls of the house should not be damaged, so the mother used to keep utensils on the ground. Water dripping from the roof kept collecting in it. Even in those moments, I never saw my mother upset, I did not see myself cursing. The PM wrote that his mother not only used to do all the household chores herself, but also used to wash utensils and spin the spinning wheel in some houses to earn some money.
‘Hiraba’s memory still sharp’
PM Modi said that his mother also loved cleanliness and when someone came to clean the drain near her house in Vadnagar, her mother would not let her go without drinking tea. The PM described his mother as a conscientious citizen, who voted in every election from Panchayat to Parliament. The PM said that his mother led a very successful life and even today there is no property in her name. The PM said that his mother is aware of the current developments and her memory is still sharp. His mother has been a Kabirpanthi from the beginning. His mother has an unwavering faith in God, but she stays far away from superstition. understood them and blessed them.
‘Whatever is good in my personality, Hiraba’s gift’
The PM said that later his father also became comfortable with his decision and he blessed him. The PM said that, the spirit of respecting the wishes of others, the feeling of not imposing one’s will on others, I have seen in my mother since childhood. Especially about me, she took great care that she should never become a wall between me and my decisions. I always got encouragement from him. She was seeing a different kind of tendency growing in my mind since childhood.
PM Modi wrote in his blog that, as long as his father was alive, he followed this that he should not be a burden on anyone. Even today my mother lives in the same effort not to be a burden on anyone, as much as possible, do your own work. The PM said that, whatever is good in my life today, whatever is good in my personality, it is the gift of mother and father.
