Shivratri Puja takes place at midnight, it is also called Nishita Kaal. Before starting the puja, take a bath and wear clean clothes. After this, anoint the Shivling by offering Ganga water, milk, ghee, honey, curd, vermilion, sugar, rose water etc. Chant Shiva Mantra while doing Abhishek. Apply sandalwood and burn datura, bel leaves and incense. Light a lamp and offer naivedya. After this, chant Shiv Chalisa, Shiv Purana and Shiva Mantra with Rudraksha garland.
