In the national capital Delhi, this year the monsoon can knock 12 days before the normal date i.e. on June 15. This information was given by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday. Kuldeep Srivastava, head of IMD’s Regional Forecasting Center, told that earlier in the year 2008 also, the monsoon had reached Delhi on June 15. He said, “There are favorable conditions for the early arrival of monsoon. This time it (monsoon) may reach Delhi on June 15.
IMD said that a low pressure area remains over the northwest Bay of Bengal. It is likely to move towards Odisha, Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh in the next three to four days. “Due to favorable weather conditions, Southwest Monsoon is expected to cover the entire country except South Rajasthan and Kutch region of Gujarat during next five to six days,” the IMD said.
Srivastava said that for declaring the arrival of monsoon in an area, three factors are considered broadly in which first, rain over a wide area, second, the possibility of rain for the next three-four days and third, easterly winds. According to Mahesh Palawat of private weather forecasting agency Skymet Weather, in the year 2013, the monsoon had reached all parts of the country by June 16. By June 29 last year, the monsoon had reached the entire country.
Torrential rain forecast in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh tomorrow
The IMD said that due to the strengthening of westerly winds with low pressure in the coastal areas, it is forecast to continue with torrential rains from June 10 to 15 in the coastal areas of Maharashtra and from June 12 to 15 in coastal Karnataka. Kerala is also likely to receive heavy rains from June 12 to 15, while Konkan will receive torrential rains from June 12 to 15. Due to the formation of a low pressure area in the west-northwest, many areas of Northeast India (except Rajasthan) will see rain activity between June 12 and 14. At the same time, there is a forecast of torrential rains in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh on June 12.
