The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned the mother of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for questioning in a money laundering case. Officials said on Thursday that Gulshan Nazir, the mother of Mufti, has been asked to appear in the ED’s office in Srinagar on April 15. PDP President Mufti was questioned in the case on 25 March in Srinagar. A PDP spokesperson said the fresh summons was “part of the action being taken against Mehbooba Mufti and PDP under political vendetta”.
Nazir is the wife of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. The ED registered a criminal case under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the case of two diaries recovered after a raid on the premises of an alleged aide of Mehbooba Mufti. This diary contained some payment from the discretionary fund of the Chief Minister, which was against the rules. The money was allegedly transferred for other purposes during Mehbooba Mufti’s chief minister in Jammu and Kashmir.
Controversy over hoisting national flag in Jammu and Kashmir
Mehbooba Mufti said on Wednesday that the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s decision to impose the national flag on all government buildings in the Union Territory reflects a sense of insecurity, as no such order has been issued anywhere in the country. Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha asked the officials to place the tricolor flag at the end of last month on all government buildings in Jammu and Kashmir.
The administration also directed all the Deputy Commissioners and divisional heads of departments to implement the order of the Lieutenant Governor within a fortnight. Mehbooba said, “It shows his sense of insecurity.” There is a feeling of imperfection. Why are such orders being issued only in Jammu and Kashmir? In other parts of the country, the Governor or Administrator has not issued such an order.
