After the death of General Bipin Rawat in a helicopter crash in December last year, the Center appointed the next Chief of Defense Staff (CDS). (CDS) Has not decided on the appointment, officials said on Tuesday regarding this matter. Let the current Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen Manoj Pandey (Eastern Army Commander Lieutenant) Lieutenant General CP Mohanty is set to take over as the next deputy chief after his retirement on January 31.
One of the officers, requesting anonymity, said Pandey is expected to be succeeded by Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita in the Kolkata-based Eastern Command. Kalita is currently serving as the Deputy Chief of Army Staff at the Army Headquarters. Another post that will fall vacant on January 31 is that of Northern Army Commander as Lt Gen YK Joshi is retiring that day.
Will retire on 30th April
Another official said that Joshi is expected to be replaced by Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi. Dwivedi is also serving as the Deputy Chief of the Army Headquarters. Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane, who is being seen as the front-runner for the CDS post, is due to retire on April 30. Pandey will be the top contender for the army chief’s post. Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Choudhary and Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar are both nearly two years his junior. Naravane is likely to be named as the next CDS, as reported earlier.
At the same time, Indian Army had released the notification of Short Service Commission (NT) JAG (for Judge Advocate General Branch) Entry Scheme 29th Course and Technical Entry Course (10+2 TES 47).
