1287 crores spent in electrification of 741 km route
The Railway Ministry had approved the work of electrification of Konkan Railway in the year 2016. After the completion of electrification between Ratnagiri and Thivim, an expenditure of Rs 1287 crore has been spent on electrification of 741 km route under Konkan Railway. Electrification is being inaugurated online at the hands of PM Narendra Modi. This is the inaugural program at Ratnagiri, Udapi and Madgaon railway stations of Konkan Railway. Save fuel, save time and travel faster than before
Electrification of Konkan Railway will not only save fuel but will also make the journey pollution free. Earlier, trains were being run on this route with the help of diesel engines. Usually, a 12-car train requires 6 to 10 liters of diesel to travel one kilometer. It keeps on changing according to the horsepower of the engine. But now after electrification, not only will the speed of rail travel be accelerated, but this journey will also be pollution free and fuel cost will also come down.
