The Fadnavis government had proposed to implement three-language policy in schools in Maharashtra, under which it was made mandatory for students from class 1 to 5 to teach Hindi as a third language. The Thackeray brothers had opened a front together against this decision of the government. Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray had announced to hold a joint rally on July 5, causing a political stir. The Fadnavis government canceled the mandate to teach Hindi even before the Thackeray brothers came on a platform.
