Maharashtra Bandh: Bandh shows effect in Mumbai, BEST bus service stopped after stone pelting incident

Maharashtra Bandh: मुंबई में बंद का दिखा असर, पथराव की घटना के बाद BEST बस सेवा हुई बंद

Best bus service closed in Mumbai.

A protest has been called by the three ruling parties of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra to protest the killing of 4 farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. Bus services of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) were suspended in Mumbai on Monday following incidents of stone pelting at some places here during the Maharashtra Bandh, officials said.

In fact, BEST officials said that early this morning nine buses were damaged near Dharavi, Mankhurd, Shivaji Nagar, Charkop, Oshiwara, Deonar and Inorbit Mall. These also include a bus hired on lease. He said that the BEST administration has demanded police protection and after reviewing the situation, buses will be operated from all the depots. Meanwhile, Suhas Samant, leader of BEST Kamgar Sena affiliated to ruling party Shiv Sena, in a video clip on Sunday appealed to all BEST employees to support the bandh. While BEST buses and many traditional ‘kaali-yellow cabs’ stayed off the roads, suburban railway stations were heavily crowded to and from local trains, which were running as per schedule.

All three parties appealed to the people to show solidarity with the farmers

Significantly, the three allies Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party and Congress in Maharashtra’s Maha Vikas Aghadi government have appealed to the people to support the bandh that started from midnight to show solidarity with the farmers. Due to this, shops and other business establishments remained closed in the morning in Mumbai and surrounding areas, except those engaged in the sale of essential commodities. Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association president Viren Shah said that they have decided to keep the shops closed for half a day in support of the bandh. Shah told that the shops will reopen from 4 pm.

Mahavikas Aghadi government demanded the dismissal of the Union Minister

Let us inform that on October 3, 8 people, including 4 farmers, died in Lakhimpur Kheri, UP. It is alleged that farmers were killed when they were crushed by vehicles carrying BJP workers, following which some people in these vehicles were allegedly thrashed to death by an angry mob. On Saturday night, Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra was arrested by the police in connection with the October 3 violence in Lakhimpur Kheri. During this, NCP spokesperson and Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik said on Sunday that the Maha Vikas Aghadi government demands the dismissal of Union Minister Ajay Mishra.
