‘Nirbhaya Squad’ for women’s safety
After the Mumbai Sakinaka Rape case, the police have taken some important decisions. Under this decision, from now onwards, a Nirbhaya Squad will be deployed in every police station of Mumbai for women officers. Police patrols will be increased in areas where crimes against women are increasing. This information was given by Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale (Munbai Police Commissioner).
A woman was raped in Sakinaka and then brutally murdered. After this, plans are being made and implemented so that such an incident should not happen again. Under these preparations, some important decisions related to Mumbai Police have been taken. Nirbhaya squad will be deployed after two days of training
Keeping in mind the instructions of the Commissioner of Police, each Nirbhaya squad will undergo training for two days. After that he will be posted. These squads will be trained to collect information from girls’ hostels, orphanages for young children. Information about those places will be obtained from places from where cases against women come more. Complete information about the slums, gardens, schools, colleges, theatres, deserted areas near malls in those areas will be recorded in the concerned police station. Police patrolling will be done in such areas in a planned manner.
Help in securing safe women traveling late at night
Police help will be given to women traveling late at night. Assistance will be given to provide vehicle facility to such women to reach their destinations. A list of older women residing within the limits of the police station will be prepared and their well being will be inquired from time to time.
Initiative to spread awareness about number 103 and ‘Nirbhaya Complaint Box’
The number 103 working for the safety of women will be publicized so that all women can get information about it and they can ask for police protection if needed. A list of the accused who have been involved in crimes against women in the last five years will be kept ready. Apart from this, ‘Nirbhaya Complaint Box’ will be kept in every school, college and girls’ hostel for complaints. A ‘Saksham’ campaign will be run to guide women in incidents like sexual abuse, molestation. These are some of the preparations that the Mumbai Police is implementing.
