Ram Vilas Paswan lived in the 12 Janpath bungalow for 31 years. In the year 1989, he shifted to the bungalow at 12 Janpath. Since then till now he lived in this bungalow. In between, even if he did not stay in the MP, he stayed in this bungalow after paying the guest house accommodation fees.

It is the year 2004. At that time, the then UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had reached 12 Janpath on foot to seek support for the United Progressive Alliance. Sonia Gandhi and Ram Vilas Paswan were neighbors of each other.
