Lakhimpur Kheri violence case: 10 lakh rupees compensation should be given to the injured farmers without any delay, United Kisan Morcha demanded from the Yogi government

Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait

The United Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Friday demanded from the Uttar Pradesh government that the farmers injured in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case should be given a compensation of Rs 10 lakh as promised without any delay. The SKM, which is spearheading the farmers’ agitation against the three agriculture laws of the Centre, said in a statement that the compensation announced by the Uttar Pradesh government for the farmers who were injured in the violence on October 4 has not been paid yet.

He said, “It is understood that the promised compensation to the injured in the Lakhimpur Kheri farmer murder case has not been paid. SKM demands that compensation be paid without any further delay.”

Uttar Pradesh government had announced compensation

The Uttar Pradesh government had announced a compensation of Rs 45 lakh to the families of the four farmers killed in the incident and Rs 10 lakh to those injured in the violence. On October 3, eight people died in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. Four of the eight victims were farmers, who were allegedly hit by a vehicle carrying BJP workers.

The police have so far arrested 13 accused including Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra in this case. Meanwhile, the SKM said preparations for the November 26 pan-India protest are in full swing and preparatory meetings are being held in several states to mobilize farmers.

The SKM has called for large-scale mahapanchayats in state capitals on 26 November to commemorate one year of the movement. “The preparations for the ‘Lucknow Mahapanchayat’ on November 22 are also in full swing, and the mahapanchayat is expected to witness a huge crowd of farmers, which will send a strong message to the anti-farmer BJP,” the statement said.
