Kushinagar Airport: PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate Kushinagar International Airport, know why it is so special for the country

The travel of Buddhist pilgrims in the country will now become easier. Keeping in mind the demand of domestic and international passengers and pilgrims, the Airport Authority of India has constructed the airport in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate this international airport on Wednesday. Kushinagar is an international Buddhist pilgrimage site where Lord Gautam Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana. It is also the focal point of the Buddhist circuit.

The Airports Authority of India in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh has developed the Kushinagar airport with a new terminal building spread over 3600 sqm at an estimated cost of Rs 260 crore. According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the inaugural flight carrying 125 dignitaries and Buddhist monks will land at Kushinagar airport from Colombo in Sri Lanka.

UP’s longest runway

The new terminal will provide commuting facility for 300 passengers during peak hours. The opening of the Kushinagar airport will facilitate pilgrims from different parts of the world to provide seamless connectivity to various Buddhist sites in the region. It is being told that Kushinagar International Airport is the longest runway (3.2 km long and 45 meters wide) airport in Uttar Pradesh. Its runway capacity is 8 flights (four arrivals and four departures) per hour.

Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s plane will land here and will also leave from this airport. The President will be accompanied by a 25-member delegation and 100 prominent Buddhist monks. On 24 June 2020, on the initiative of the Yogi Adityanath government, the Union Cabinet declared it an international airport.

increasing number of tourists

Direct air connectivity with South Asian countries will make it easier for tourists coming from Sri Lanka, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore etc. to reach Kushinagar and experience the rich heritage of the region. Tourist arrivals are expected to increase by up to 20 per cent with the inauguration of the flight.

Farmers will also get benefit

Nearby farmers will also get the benefit of this airport. Opportunities for export of horticultural products such as bananas, strawberries and mushrooms will also get a boost. It is being told that more than two crore population will be able to take the services of the airport. Tourist arrivals are expected to increase by up to 20 percent with the inauguration of the flight. The airport of Kushinagar will prove helpful for the large migrant population of eastern Uttar Pradesh and western and northern parts of Bihar.
