A member of the Bengal Hotel Restaurant and Excise License Welfare Association said that the state government is giving a time limit of 72 hours. If their demands are not met within this period, they will shut down the business.
The organization accused the police of doing arbitrariness
According to the organization, according to government rules, bars and restaurants have been given opening hours till 10:30 pm. However, the police is forcibly closing it till 10 pm. Because of this customers are not coming. They are facing financial loss. About 50 lakh traders are directly or indirectly associated with this business in the state. So if the states do not sit for talks within 72 hours, they will be forced to launch a big agitation. Apart from taking to the streets, the bar has also been warned to be closed. The organization demanded that the time limit for opening of bars and restaurants should be extended till 12 midnight. He also requested the Excise Department to reduce the pressure of buying liquor. He also demanded a reduction in the price of liquor and the imposition of some rules on music.
72 hours ultimatum to police and administration
The bar owners claim that the average daily sales have come down by Rs 50,000. According to the traders, the average number of employees in each bar is 50 and the average salary of the employees is Rs.8,000. He also complained that no bonus has been received in the last two years. Bar owners say that even though there has been a decline in business, the salaries of the employees have not stopped. Owners of 850 bars are associated with the movement together. The organization’s general secretary Achint Basu said, “If our demands are not met, the sale of liquor will be stopped.” He also said that the demands of the traders should be fulfilled soon.
