Kiren Rijiju: One of the important participants in the argument of the government vs the judiciary, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, made the statement today that judges are excluded from scrutiny and elections. Due to their acts and decisions, they are still in the public spotlight.

What did Law Minister Kiren Rijiju say?
In an event at Delhi Bar Association, he stated, “The people are watching you and judging you. Your judgments, your work process, how you dispense justice… The people can see and assess… They form opinions.”
Since 1947, there have been many changes, therefore it would be incorrect to assume that the current system will last and never be challenged, according to Mr. Rijiju. He said that the necessity for change is dictated by the environment, which is why the Constitution has had to be altered more than a hundred times.
The administration has been pushing for a bigger say in deciding who gets to be a judge, claiming that because the legislature reflects the will of the people, it is supreme. Recently, Kiren Rijiju was in news after he used a statement by retired Delhi High Court Judge RS Sodhi as an argument of the ongoing debate.

What happened between Kiren Rijiju and RS Sodhi?
Taking to Twitter, Kiren shared a video clip of RS Sodhi speaking about the appointment of judges and democracy. However, just a day later, RS Sodhi took a jibe at the law minister and stated that “Don’t shoot off my shoulder.” The comments by the retired judge has drawn great attention as many thought that his stance on the argument was same.
Despite all the build-ups, Kiren Rijiju has not issued any statement or spoken to media regarding the comments made by RS Sodhi.
