There was speculation that the KPCC chief would also be replaced after the post of the Leader of the Opposition, as the national leadership wants to make a complete change in the state unit of the party from the ground level.

There are reports of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee chief Mullappally Ramachandran resigning from the post of the Congress’s defeat in the Kerala Assembly elections. Sources said that Ramachandran, an eight-time MP, has offered to resign, but the party leadership in Delhi has asked him to continue in office till the new president is elected. A Congress source said that Ramachandran had offered to step down on the day Ramesh Chennithala was removed from the post of Leader of the Opposition.
Also said that now he has resigned in writing. According to my understanding, the high command has asked him to continue in office till the new president is elected. Ramachandran could not be contacted for comment. The senior leader has taken this step when the All India Congress Committee (AICC) nominated senior leader VD Satishan as the leader of the legislative party in the assembly. He will replace Ramesh Chennithala, who was leading the party in the House for the last five years.
There was speculation that the KPCC chief would also be replaced after the post of the Leader of the Opposition, as the national leadership wants to make a complete change in the state unit of the party from the ground level. After the Congress-UDF won just 41 seats in the assembly elections held on April 6, a group of leaders and activists, especially the Youth Congress members, are demanding a complete change in the leadership of the party in the state.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress won 19 out of 20 seats.
After news of Ramachandran’s resignation came, Chennithala on his Facebook page praised the 76-year-old leader’s contributions and described him as a non-corrupt leader. He reminded that under the leadership of Ramachandran, the party won 19 out of 20 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He said that nobody congratulated him at that time. Chennithala said that I do not think only Mullapally Ramachandran is responsible for the failure of the party in the assembly elections. I believe that more than them, former Chief Minister Umman Chandy and other leaders are responsible for the defeat. Sudhakaran, a senior leader from Kannur, is one of the important contenders for the post of KPCC chief. He is considered a bitter critic of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
