The series of festivals has started in India and as Dussehra has passed, people are already preparing for Karva Chauth.
It is a festival where married Hindu women observe a fast for the long and prosperous life of their husbands. This fast is done from sunrise to moonrise where women do not eat or drink anything.
The festival of Karva Chauth is celebrated on the fourth day after the full moon in the Hindu luni-solar calendar month of Kartik. And this year this auspicious day is falling on 24 October 2021, Sunday.
And talking about the rituals of Karva Chauth, one of the main elements of this day is the Sargi meal. This is the food given by the mother-in-law to her daughter-in-law before sunrise.
The purpose of doing it early in the morning is to maintain the energy to stay for the whole day without food and water. Therefore, as it has so much importance in the festival, it is necessary to include some special types of dishes in your sargi.
So, here we are with a list of healthy foods that you must include in your sargi for Karva Chauth rituals this year.
This is a traditional dish in Punjabi families. It is a good source of calcium and is full of energy. Roasted feni is added to condensed milk, when it comes to a boil, soaked saffron is mixed in it. Add sugar and roasted ground dry fruits. Boil for two minutes, Feni is ready.
2. Aloo Paratha
Aloo paratha is prepared by kneading a soft dough by applying a little oil in wheat flour. A little salt, pepper and other spices are added to the mashed boiled potatoes. Fill this mixture in the rolled dough. Fry this paratha on a medium hot tava (griddle). Add butter on it for better taste.
3. Dry Fruit Ladoo
Laddus can be a joyous thing before starting your fast. Make coarse powder of dry fruits like almonds, cashews, raisins, pistachios and dates. Add ghee, sugar and coconut powder. Gently make them into round shape.
Mathri made with all purpose flour and salt is a great morning snack. Knead the dough by mixing ghee, salt, baking powder and lukewarm water in all purpose flour. Take small balls of dough, roll them. This is a deep fried delicious snack.
In some families, phirni is a traditional dish. It is prepared by adding rice flour to milk and it is cooked slowly on very low flame. After a while sugar and dry fruits are added to it. It is served in earthen pots.
