Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday termed the ongoing farmers’ movement against agricultural laws on the borders of Delhi as Congress-sponsored, due to which there was a tussle between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the opposition Congress in the assembly. Hui. Bommai made this remark while replying to the discussion on the issue of inflation in the House, Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah strongly criticized it.
Bommai said that this (farmers’ protest) in Delhi is sponsored by you (Congress). Farmers are agitating around Delhi. This has not happened anywhere else in the country, because it is sponsored. Congress leaders and MLAs strongly opposed this. Party’s state president DK Shivakumar termed this statement as an insult to the farmers and asked Bommai to apologize. Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah termed it the most irresponsible remark.
A heated argument broke out between BJP and Congress MLAs
Bommai’s remarks led to a heated argument between legislators of the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress, leading to a brief ruckus in the House. However, the Chief Minister maintained his remark that the farmers’ movement claiming to be from Punjab and Haryana is sponsored. He said that it has a political background, it is sponsored by you. This is for politics on MSP (Minimum Support Price).
Congress misled the people of the country- Basavaraj Bommai
Bommai alleged that the commission agents of the markets were also behind the agitation, as they were worried about the new agricultural laws. He asked the Congress not to mislead the people of the country. At the same time, senior Congress MLA Ramesh Kumar asked whether the movement was sponsored by foreign forces and who was behind it. On this, Bommai said that during the tenure of Indira Gandhi in 1972-75, whether it was the farmers’ movement or the workers’, everyone was said to be behind such forces.
He said that but we are not talking about being a foreign hand, because foreign agents have already been close to the administration. Foreign agents and commission agents who want to control the APMC are sponsoring the protest. Bommai attacked Siddaramaiah for his recent remarks, in which he accused the BJP governments at the Center and the state of criminal loot. Initiating the discussion, Bommai asked whether this means that in the past governments of all parties have committed criminal loot by raising prices.
In response, Siddaramaiah said that the Chief Minister has admitted in his statement that criminal robbery has taken place. Siddaramaiah said he had used the words of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who had said the same thing in 1973 when he was a Jan Sangh MP to protest the seven paise hike in fuel prices during Indira Gandhi’s tenure.
