Jammu Kashmir: Earthquake tremors of 5.3 magnitude in Jammu and Kashmir, center was in Hindukush mountains of Afghanistan

Earlier on Friday, a massive earthquake struck Indonesia’s main island of Java, which shook buildings in the capital Jakarta, but no serious damage to life or property was reported. Officials say that there is no danger of tsunami due to this earthquake. According to the US Geological Survey Institute, the quake had a magnitude of 6.6 and its epicenter was at a depth of 37 kilometers in the Indian Ocean, about 88 kilometers southwest of the coastal city of Labuan in Banten province.

People felt tremors in the capital Jakarta

Indonesia’s Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said there was no danger of a tsunami. Although earthquakes are frequent in this island group country, but it is generally not felt in the capital of the country. Residents of high-rise buildings in this city with a population of about one crore felt the tremors for a few seconds. Laila Ansari, who lives on the 19th floor of an apartment in Jakarta, said, “The earthquake was horrific….everything was shaking in my room. We came down the stairs out of fear.”
