The local BJP leader tried to attack Lashkar-e-Taiba militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Naugam on Thursday morning, in which a police constable was killed. Kashmir Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar said that four terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba attacked the BJP leader’s residence. Kumar said that one of the four terrorists came wearing a burqa and spoke to the guard in a woman’s voice to open the main door of BJP leader Anwar Khan’s house.

On the sidelines of a function organized to pay homage to the martyred police personnel Rameez Raza in the police control room, the IGP told reporters that there was a security guard at the main door while two police personnel were in the guard room. It is clear from the CCTV footage that a terrorist wearing a burqa knocked on the main door and asked to open the door in the voice of the woman.

Two of the four terrorists identified

The divisional commissioner of Kashmir K Pandurang Polay and officials of the police, central armed paramilitary force and civil administration paid tribute to the deceased policeman in the police control room. The BJP condemned the terrorist attack and said that such incidents could not weaken democracy in Jammu and Kashmir. BJP national general secretary and Jammu and Kashmir in-charge Tarun Chugh termed the attack as disgraceful and said stern punishment will be ensured for the killers of policemen.

In the context of various attacks on party leaders, he said that these repeated terrorist attacks cannot undermine democracy in the region. Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Ravindra Raina also condemned the attack and said that such incidents make the entire humanity feel ashamed.

‘Those killing innocent policemen will not be spared’

He said that as soldiers of democracy, social and political activists work tirelessly to strengthen democracy, but terrorists do not want their bosses and their sympathizers to prosper. BJP general secretary (organization) Ashok Kaul said that those who attacked the house of the party leader and killed the innocent policeman would not be spared.

Kaul demanded that BJP workers should be given proper security so that anti-national elements could not easily attack them. Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) strongly condemned the killing and expressed concern over the worsening situation in the valley. The JKPCC issued a statement describing the incident as cowardly and shameful.

Expressing concern over the continuing attacks in Kashmir, the party demanded that the government take more effective steps so that these attacks can be stopped and ensure that no more lives are lost. JKPCC has expressed its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased policeman.
