Jaishankar and Doval held talks with Germany’s security and foreign policy advisor, discussed many issues including Ukraine

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar (External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar) and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval (National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Germany’s security and foreign policy advisor Jens Plotner (Visiting India)Jens Plötner) on Wednesday that dealt with the geopolitical turmoil emanating from the conflict in Ukraine as well as important bilateral issues. Plotner is in India on a one-day tour and after that he will go to Japan. The German official also held extensive talks with Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla on global and regional issues of mutual interest.

Before the talks, Plutner said that the world should understand the geopolitical consequences of Russia’s attack on Ukraine and if it is not stopped, it will have big consequences for the world.

Plotner told reporters that Germany was seeking an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and that he had come to India to share his country’s approach to the crisis in the eastern European country. He also stressed on ensuring the effect of Western sanctions on Russia and called the Russian action a “blatant and unprovoked violation of international rules”. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said on Twitter that they had extensive discussions on the India-Germany strategic partnership and exchanged views on global and regional issues of mutual interest.

According to government sources, during his conversation with Plotner, Doval emphasized India’s firm approach to a peaceful settlement of the dispute in accordance with international law and its commitment to respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations. He said that the two sides discussed several bilateral issues as well as important global developments, including issues related to their respective regions. The visit of the German Chancellor’s Security and Foreign Policy Advisor to Delhi comes at a time when several high-level foreign dignitaries are visiting India for consultations on the Ukraine crisis and other regional and multilateral issues.

At the same time, a source said that the two sides reaffirmed the strong and flexible strategic partnership between the two countries and the immense potential of mutual benefit that exists in it. Sources said they agreed that the upcoming Sixth Intergovernmental Consultation would give an opportunity to the leadership of both sides to hold talks and intensify the bilateral partnership. He said that both the sides have agreed to continue talks on issues of mutual interest.
