Jaipur News: The city is experiencing a surge in hotel occupancy, reaching a remarkable 80%, with rates soaring by almost 100% during the extended weekend beginning on Thursday. This surge in demand is attributed to the convergence of the Janmashtami holidays and the G20 summit taking place in New Delhi, resulting in the closure of many offices in the national capital.
Ranvijay Singh, joint secretary of the Hotels and Restaurants Association of Rajasthan (HRAR), anticipates occupancy rates to further climb to over 95% during this long weekend. He noted that due to the exceptionally high demand, hotel rates have also witnessed a substantial increase of 100% in many establishments.
A significant portion of visitors flocking to the Pink City hails from the National Capital Region (NCR). Apart from Janmashtami, the national capital is playing host to the G20 summit over the weekend, leading to office closures and subsequently boosting tourism.
Udaipur traditionally attracts a substantial number of tourists from Gujarat during Janmashtami
Udaipur traditionally attracts a substantial number of tourists from Gujarat during Janmashtami, particularly from the Rajkot region. With the availability of direct flights, this year is expected to witness an even greater influx. Additionally, due to the G20 summit, Udaipur, often less frequented in September, is anticipated to welcome more tourists from Delhi.
U B Srivastava, president of the United Hotels of Udaipur, reported that approximately 50%-60% of hotel rooms in the city have already been booked, with a significant portion of these bookings coming from visitors originating in Gujarat. However, the G20 summit is expected to draw more visitors to the city this year.
Hotel associations view this surge in demand as a promising start to the upcoming tourist season, set to commence next month. This increased demand is also spilling over to nearby destinations such as Pushkar, Ranthambore, Sariska, and Mandawa. Hotel officials in these areas have corroborated this trend, although they noted that room rates have not experienced a significant change.
A contributing factor to this trend is the new expressway connecting Delhi and Jaipur, which has considerably reduced travel time to a mere three to four hours, making road travel more appealing to tourists, as highlighted by Singh of HRAR.
