It is necessary to save the rich cultural-linguistic heritage of the country, if the language is forgotten, then the culture will also disappear – Vice President Venkaiah Naidu

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday stressed the need to protect the rich cultural and linguistic heritage of the country and urged people to make efforts in this regard at the individual and collective level. The Vice President digitally released a book based on the 7th World Telugu Literature Conference held in October last year.

Renowned singer S. Congratulating its editors, writers and publishers while dedicating it to P. Balasubramaniam, Naidu called for several such initiatives to promote the country’s rich cultural heritage.

According to an official statement issued by the Vice President’s Secretariat, Naidu said that with the advent of the Internet and digital technologies, people get new opportunities for the preservation and development of languages. He stressed the need for effective use of these technologies. “The day our language is forgotten, our culture will also disappear,” he said. Our ancient literature should be brought closer to the youth.

Recently Venkaiah Naidu called for a mass movement to protect the environment and appealed to the people to participate voluntarily in various conservation activities. He especially called upon the youth to take the lead in this movement and inspire others to adopt sustainable practices. He said, “They should take the idea among the people that ‘if we take care of nature, nature will take care of mankind in return’.”

Development needs have to be balanced with environment: Naidu

Citing the effects of rapid urbanization and deforestation, the Vice President said that adverse weather conditions like flash floods and landslides have been repeatedly reported in different parts of the world in the recent past. “These are clear indications that climate change is a reality and things cannot just continue,” Naidu had said.

In order to reduce such weather conditions, he said, “…in such a situation it is necessary that we live in harmony with nature. We have to balance our development needs with environmental protection and ensure that everyone understands the importance of a sustainable lifestyle. Meaningful development is possible only if it takes into account the cost of environment.
