The price of LPG has almost doubled in Sri Lanka. There are cylinders of 12.5 kg gas, not 14.2 kg. The price of these standard domestic LPG cylinders was Rs 1,400 last Friday. Its price has increased by Rs 1257 and now the price of cylinder has gone up to Rs 2,657.
Not only this, the price of 1 kg powdered milk in Sri Lanka has now increased by Rs 250 to Rs 1,195. Similarly, the prices of daily necessities, ration items, wheat flour, sugar etc. have also increased tremendously. In the cabinet meeting here, it was decided to abolish the price limit of milk powder, gas, wheat flour and cement.
According to a spokesperson of the Sri Lanka Consumer Protection Authority, “The cabinet has decided to remove the price cap for milk powder, wheat flour, sugar and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). It is expected that this will increase the supply and people will get relief to a great extent.
