Haryana government is promoting crop diversification in the state under Mera Pani- Meri Virasat Yojana. Under this scheme, farmers who sow alternative crops in place of traditional crops, are given seven thousand rupees per acre.
The preparations for Kharif season are in full swing these days. For example, in the major states of the country, from the government to the farmers, they are busy preparing for the cultivation of paddy, the main crop of Kharif. In this episode, the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department of Haryana is also busy in taking its schemes to the people. Under which the Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department is focused on crop diversification in the Kharif season in the state. As a result, the Agriculture Department has set a target of reducing the area under paddy cultivation in the state by one lakh acres this kharif season. To achieve this state wise target, the Agriculture Department has also set district wise target.
In this episode, the Agriculture Department has sought registration from farmers for crop diversification, the process of which is going on these days. At the same time, agriculture officers have been made ready at the district level also.
Promoting other crops instead of paddy
Haryana government is promoting sowing of other crops instead of paddy under its crop diversification program. For this, the Haryana government has started ‘Mera Pani-Meri Virasat’ scheme. Under this scheme, a target of sowing other crops has been set in one lakh acres this year. Under which the Agriculture Department has set a target of sowing maize in 15,000 acres, cotton in 51 thousand acres, pulses in 2500 acres, oilseeds in 1000 acres, fodder in 15,000 acres and vegetables in 15,000 acres instead of paddy in the state. .
The area under paddy cultivation will be less in these districts, the department missed the target last year
The Agriculture Department of Haryana has set a target of reducing the area under paddy cultivation in one lakh acres this Kharif season. Under which the target is to sow other crops in 13,775 acres in Sirsa district. Similarly, 11,655 acres in Jind, 10,796 acres in Fatehabad, 7,338 acres in Kaithal and 7,088 acres in Hisar have set other targets for cultivation of other crops instead of paddy. In fact last year also the Agriculture Department had set a target of two lakh acres to promote crop diversification, this target of the department could not be met. For example, under crop diversification, registration was done for sowing other crops instead of paddy in about 98,000 acres of land in the state. Out of which crop diversification could be achieved in only 53,000 acres.
Seven thousand rupees per acre on adopting crop diversification
Haryana government is promoting crop diversification in the state under the ‘Mera Pani-Meri Virasat’ scheme. Under which farmers who choose alternative crops instead of traditional crops are given seven thousand rupees per acre by the government. Till the last years, this money was given to the farmers in two installments. According to the information, this year the government is planning to give full money in one installment.
