The Haryana government is promoting crop diversification to save groundwater that is spent during paddy cultivation. Under which the state government has also started ‘Mera Pani Meri Virasat’ scheme.
Rabi season has ended. Along with this, preparations for Kharif season have also started. For which the state governments and farmers are busy at their respective levels to prepare for the sowing of paddy, the main crop of Kharif season. The Haryana government is also included in this list, which is promoting the sowing of other crops instead of paddy to save the depleting groundwater in the state. Meaning the state government is encouraging farmers to sow other crops instead of paddy under crop diversification. For this, the Haryana Government had linked crop diversification with financial assistance under the ‘Mera Pani Meri Virasat’ scheme in the year 2020. In this episode, 2021 has brought pleasant results for the state government. Under which a reduction of 10 percent has been registered in the area of paddy inside the state in 2021.
HT has published a report on the reduction in the area under paddy cultivation in Haryana. Under which paddy was cultivated on 36 lakh acres in the year 2018. Which increased to 39 lakh acres in 2019. In the year 2020, under the scheme, there was a slight decrease in the area under paddy cultivation and the area has come down to 38 lakh acres. At the same time, after a record decrease in 2021, the area under paddy cultivation remained 34 lakh acres.
More than 62 thousand farmers sown other crops
Haryana government is promoting crop diversification within the state under the ‘Mera Pani Meri Virasat’ scheme. Under this scheme, more than 62 thousand farmers have sown other crops. According to the data, during the Kharif season 2021, crop diversification took place in 51,878 acres. Of this, oilseeds and pulses replaced millet in 34,246 acres, while direct sowing of paddy took place in 17,380 acres. According to the data, Rs 53.34 crore was paid as incentive to 62,562 farmers for opting for crop diversification in 2021.
Haryana government is giving 7 thousand rupees per acre
Haryana government is promoting crop diversification in the state. The purpose of which is to put a check on the rapidly depleting groundwater level in the state. For this, the Haryana government is encouraging farmers to grow crops like pulses, cotton and maize every year in place of paddy cultivation. For this, the Haryana Government has also started ‘Mera Pani Meri Virasat’ scheme. Under this scheme, the state government gives 7 thousand rupees per acre to the farmers cultivating other crops instead of paddy. Under which two thousand rupees are given at the time of sowing the crop, while 5 thousand rupees are paid at the time of harvesting.
