Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation for the 9th time during the Corona period on Monday. During his address, Prime Minister Modi talked about issues like the fight against Corona, efforts made to deal with the second wave, demand and supply of oxygen, corona vaccination and free food grains to more than 80 crore countrymen.
Announcing free ration to the countrymen, Prime Minister Modi said, ‘Today the government has decided that the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana will now be extended till Diwali. In this time of pandemic, with every need of the poor, the government is standing as their partner. That is, by November, free food grains will be available in fixed quantity every month to more than 80 crore countrymen.
Those without ration card will also get the benefit of the scheme
The most important thing is that this time under the Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, even those people who do not have ration card will get free food grains. To take advantage of the scheme, they only have to register through Aadhar card. After the announcement of Prime Minister Modi in this regard, the Food Ministry said that if someone does not have a ration card, then he will have to take his Aadhaar and register, after which a slip will be given to him. After showing that slip, they will get free food grains. For this, the responsibility of the state governments has also been fixed. State governments should ensure the benefit of free ration to the poor laborers.
The free 5 kg food grains available under the Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana will be in addition to the quota of food grains available on the ration card. That is, those who have already got food grains on the ration card, they will get 5 kg more ration. They will not have to pay any fee for this. The central government’s motive behind this is that no poor should sleep hungry during the pandemic.

Free food grains were given till Chhath Puja last year

Last year when the first wave of Corona came, even then the Prime Minister had announced free ration for 81 crore countrymen, under which eligible people got free food grains till Chhath Puja.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, about 81 crore people are given free ration. Under the National Food Security Act, there are around 23 crore ration card holders in the country. Ration card holders get the benefit of free grain schemes given by the government on subsidy.
