‘How long will biometrics and CCTVs be installed in court premises?’ UP government will have to file reply in Allahabad High Court in a week

The Allahabad High Court, while hearing a public interest litigation, asked the UP government a question regarding the security in the state courts. The court asked the government how much time would it take to make arrangements regarding security, biometric and CCTV cameras. The High Court sought information from the UP government on the time taken to make arrangements in the courts. A bench of Justice Sunit Kumar and Justice Samit Gopal had heard on Tuesday this PIL filed after the firing incident in the district court of Bijnor in the year 2019.

The Allahabad High Court has given the UP government a week’s time to make available the information. The court has asked the state government that by when will they be started by applying biometrics in the courts of Azamgarh and Lucknow. The public prosecutor will have to file the reply in the court within a week. On the last hearing, the High Court had asked the state government to file a reply and tell about the actual sanctioned post of security personnel and security personnel posted in each district court.

‘How long will CCTV cameras be installed in court premises’

During the hearing in September 2021, the Allahabad High Court had found that the state government has not resolved the matter due to pending financial sanctions since February 20, 2020. Due to the financial sanction, nothing happened in the lower courts regarding gate automation, biometric system and gate pass for lawyers and litigants.

The government will have to answer by December 2

The High Court, through its orders dated December 20, 2019 and January 2, 2020, had directed the government to ensure adequate security in the court premises. The next hearing in this case in the Allahabad High Court will be held on December 2, 2021. During that time the state government will have to tell how much time it will take to make arrangements regarding security, biometric and CCTV cameras.
