Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray will be seen on one stage
Protests started with Hindi opposition in Maharashtra have started taking political colors. Following the opposition parties, the Fadnavis government had to withdraw the proposal for the mandatory Hindi mandatory, but the controversy over Marathi has brought the Balasaheb Thackeray family together and to one platform. The Marathi Vijay rally will be jointly organized by the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Saturday after the withdrawal of the government proposal on the imperative of Hindi.
The biggest feature of this rally is that after about 20 years, both cousins of the Thackeray family, Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray will be seen on the same political stage. This is the first time the Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS have united on a sensitive issue and it is not only considered a symbol of solidarity of Marathi identity, but is also considered to be a role of a possible coalition in view of other local body elections including Mumbai Municipal Corporation.
Let's know, what are the possible reasons behind the solidarity of the Thackeray brothers and what are their political meanings in Maharashtra politics?
- Marathi Asmita and Hindi Opposition: Despite the lead of the India alliance in the Lok Sabha elections, Mahaghadi, including Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP), had to face his face and the government of Devendra Fadnavis was formed under the BJP leadership. This government consists of Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar of NCP. After the formation of Mahayuti's government in the state, for the first time, by linking the decision to make Hindi a third compulsory language, the opposition parties attacked the government and forced the government to withdraw their decision. The Mahayuti government is completely on the backfoot with this issue, because it is the issue of Marathi identity.
- Mahayuti Sarkar in the dock: The Thackeray brothers, calling it a linguistic emergency, are putting the Mahayuti government in the dock. Ever since this order was issued by the government. Uddhav Thackeray started attacking the Fadnavis government about this and Raj Thackeray also came with him on this issue. On July 5, a call was made to take out the Mahamorcha, but after withdrawing the proposal, the victory procession will be taken out on Saturday. With this procession, the NDA government will be attacked and an attempt will be made to organize voters.
- Look at the body elections: In the 2017 Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections, Shiv Sena (UBT) won 84 seats and had a significant impact, but its position has weakened after Eknath Shinde's rebellion and alliance with BJP. At the same time, MNS got only 7 councilors and now his grip is almost over. This rally can also decide the role of a possible coalition before the civic elections. With this rally, the opposition will not only attack the Fadnavis government, but will also give a message. After the assembly elections, this is considered an opportunity for Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray trying to return their land again.
- Bet on Bal Thackeray's legacy: This rally will be tried to re -reveal Bal Thackeray's ideology and Marathi Gaurav. Posters were released by Uddhav Thackeray's party before the rally. The poster had a picture of Uddhav and Raj Thackeray with Bal Thackeray. In the politics of Maharashtra, there has been a fight over the ideals and heritage of Balsaheb Thackeray. Till now both brothers were different, but it is believed that Hindi has done the work of uniting the Thackeray family.
- Preparations to form a strong front against BJP: Uddhav Thackeray was about to hold separate rally on 6 July and Raj Thackeray on 7 July, but after withdrawing the language proposal, the two leaders united and decided to hold a joint rally on 5 July. This decision was not only the result of the pressure of Marathi public sentiment, but is also considered to be a part of political equations and the strategy of 2025 civic elections. Political analysts believe that this solidarity of the Thackeray brothers can polarize Marathi votes and create a strong front against the BJP-Shinde alliance.
Thackeray family to reconcile from cracks
Raj Thackeray resigned from Shiv Sena in 2005 and established MNS in 2006. He was angry that Bal Thackeray chose Uddhav Thackeray as a successor. Raj's stance was more aggressive and Marathi-Hindutva based, while Uddhav's attitude was restrained and coordinating.
In the 2009 elections, the MNS had caused heavy damage to the Shiv Sena by winning 13 seats, causing political competition between the two brothers.
However, in recent years, there has been a softening in personal relations between the two brothers. The reconciliation speculation had intensified since the two met at a family wedding ceremony in early 2025, which will now end with coming together on the political stage.
Fadnavis government's Uteron on language dispute
The Maharashtra government had ordered the implementation of Hindi as the third compulsory language in the state's Marathi and English medium schools on 17 April 2025. This decision was taken under the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and its final approval was also given on 29 June.
However, Shiv Sena (UBT) and other Marathi organizations including MNS had lodged strong protest against this decision. In view of the protest, the government issued updated guidelines, in which students were allowed to choose any other Indian language other than Hindi as the third language, provided that at least 20 students choose that language in the same class.
