In the ongoing Ranjit murder case on Dera chief Ram Rahim, the CBI court has given a big verdict. Five accused, including Ram Rahim, lodged in Sunaria jail, have been convicted. The special CBI court will announce the punishment of all the convicts on October 12.
Baba Ram Rahim is accused of murder of Dera manager Ranjit Singh. In this case, including Baba Ram Rahim, Krishna Lal, Jasveer Sabdil and Avtar are also accused. Gurmeet Ram Rahim is already serving a 20-year sentence in Rohtak’s Sunaria jail for the rape of two sadhvis and life imprisonment in the journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati murder case.
Decision taken after final argument
During the hearing in the case on August 18, the defense had submitted all the documents of the final argument in the CBI court. The CBI court had asked the defense and the CBI side whether any other argument wanted to be made by any party in this. This was denied by both the parties.
No clean chit in sacrilege case
On the other hand, the Punjab Police dismissed reports of giving a clean chit to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the 2015 sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib. The statement came amid some reports referring to Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, who is holding the additional charge of police chief of Punjab. Reports have alleged that he had given a clean chit to Ram Rahim while leading the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the 2015 sacrilege cases.
Sahota has been given the additional charge of the Punjab Police Director General by the Charanjit Singh Channi-led state government. On October 12, 2015, some torn pages of the Guru Granth Sahib were found in Bargari village of Faridkot district, following which a case was registered with the Bajakhana police station. A Special Investigation Team, headed by the then Director of the State Bureau of Investigation, Sahota, was formed to probe the sabotage of the Guru Granth Sahib in 2015 in Bargari village.
