In a significant step to strengthen surveillance and improve traffic management, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has rolled out Phase 2 of its CCTV camera project, which will see the installation of 2,722 high-tech AI-enabled cameras at 258 key locations across Gurugram and its outskirts.
The proposal was approved by the Haryana Chief Minister during a high-powered works purchase committee meeting held on June 2 in Chandigarh, according to officials aware of the development.
The cameras being installed in this phase will feature advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities and adaptive traffic management systems, enabling the automated detection of traffic violations such as:
Red-light jumping
Helmet non-compliance
Wrong-side driving
Over-speeding
Lane indiscipline
Triple riding
“The project is expected to be completed within 18 months from the date of award,” said P.K. Agarwal, head of the Smart City Division at GMDA. He added, “Under Phase 2, 2,722 hi-tech CCTV cameras will be deployed across wider geographies in Gurugram and Manesar to ensure improved monitoring and public safety.”

Phase 2 will build on the success of Phase 1, which saw the installation of 1,200 CCTV cameras at 218 traffic junctions. The current expansion will bring under surveillance multiple new zones including:
Sohna, Badshahpur, Pataudi, Farrukhnagar, Dhankot, Chandu Budhera, Panchgaon, Bilaspur, Hailey Mandi
The Dwarka Expressway stretch between Sector 89 to 108
Toll points along the KMP Expressway at Badli, Farrukhnagar, Pataudi, and Manesar
The Central Peripheral Expressway corridor
Boost to Infrastructure
To support this expanded surveillance network, GMDA will also lay nearly 300 km of underground optical fiber cable, ensuring seamless data transmission between the new CCTV sites and the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC).
The ICCC, which already monitors feeds from Phase 1 locations, facilitates the automated issuance of e-challans for recorded traffic violations, reducing human intervention and ensuring transparency.
With the implementation of Phase 2, Gurugram aims to become a smarter, safer, and more efficient urban environment, reinforcing the city’s growing status as a modern metropolitan hub.
