Migrant laborers fearing lockdown
Mitra said that although some people are going back to their hometowns, this is not happening on a large scale. The official said that since the lockdown took place in the country last year, the streets were overcrowded, because the lockdown was suddenly imposed. This time, migrant laborers are going back home as a precaution, as they feel that after some time the means of trains and buses will not be available.
There is a possibility of lockdown due to increasing cases
Zonal Rail Users Advisory Committee member Yogesh Mishra said that the migrant laborers fear that if the government imposes another lockdown then they can get trapped here. He said that the Gujarat High Court had recently suggested to the government that a lockdown should be imposed. This has caused panic among the migrant laborers, who had to face a lot of trouble due to the sudden lockdown and travel restrictions imposed last year.
Migrants are going due to panchayat elections
Mishra said that now the migrant laborers are in a hurry to reach their home states. He said, people of Uttar Pradesh are going in large numbers, because panchayat elections are starting there from April 15. In such a situation, most people have planned wedding ceremonies, which were canceled last year due to the strictness of Corona. He said that people are very cautious at this time and want to go from cities to their homes even before announcing the ban on any journey.
