The Madhya Pradesh government has said that the last date for procurement of gram in Rabi marketing season 2022-23 has been changed from May 31 to June 7, 2022. This year 871100 metric tonnes of gram will be procured in the state.
There is good news for the farmers of Madhya Pradesh. The government has extended the date of Gram Procurement. The procurement process was to end today on May 31. But now it has been extended for a week for the convenience of the farmers. Now till 7th June, the government will make government purchase of gram. Chief Minister Shivraj Shivraj Singh Chouhan has extended the date of purchase of gram crop on the request of Agriculture Minister Kamal Patel. Agriculture Minister Patel said that the gram crop is ready in February itself, but its government procurement was done after wheat. In such a situation, the farmer used to sell his produce at throwaway prices under compulsion. Due to which he got a lower rate. But this year it was not allowed to happen.
Patel said that earlier the procurement of gram was done in May. But this time he had started buying it before wheat. So that farmers get good price. A few days back, the government had taken another important decision related to the purchase of gram. According to which earlier the limit of buying gram daily at the minimum support price (MSP) in the government market was only 25 quintals. But the government had increased it to 40 quintals. Earlier, there was government procurement of only 15 quintals of gram per hectare of land, which was reduced to 20 quintals.

The Agriculture Department has issued new orders to all the collectors. It has been said in the order that in the Rabi marketing season 2022-23, the last date for procurement of gram crop has been changed from May 31 to June 7, 2022. Therefore, the order to extend the time of procurement of gram means a lot for the farmers. In the Rabi marketing season 2022-23, the MSP of gram is fixed at Rs 5230 per quintal.
Gram has an important place in pulse crops
Chana is an important pulse crop grown in Rabi season. About 70 percent of the world’s total gram production occurs in India. Whereas in India most of the farming is done in MP. A quarter of the country’s gram is grown here. The production of gram is about 45 percent of the total pulse crops. It is also produced extensively in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
Agriculture Minister appeals to farmers
After extending the date of purchase of gram, Agriculture Minister Kamal Patel has appealed to the farmers to get crop insurance and pay attention to natural farming. He said that diseases are increasing due to the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Grain is getting poisonous. Therefore, the state government will get natural farming done in one lakh hectare area. The state is already in the first place in organic farming with an area of 17 lakh hectares.
