The Agriculture Department has done a study on the cultivation of traditional crops in Kharif season. On the basis of that, it has been decided to provide more resources to the farmers so that the yield per hectare can be increased. Along with this, the plan of the department is that farmers should choose quality seeds and cultivate them so that production increases. Every five years, the Agriculture Department distributes new varieties of seeds to the farmers so that they can take advantage of cultivating these varieties.
Urad acreage is increasing in the area
Agriculture Production Commissioner Manoj Kumar Singh has found in his study that there is a huge difference in the yield of Kharif crops in some districts of the same area. A Times of India report quoted this study as saying that there is a big difference in the production of urad in Lalitpur and Jalaun districts of Bundelkhand. The production of Udka per hectare in Jalaun is 15.50 quintals, while in Lalitpur it is only 2.20 quintals per hectare.
Gaurav Pandey, a progressive farmer of Jalaun, told that the area of Bundelkhand is drought-prone. It is difficult to cultivate highly water-requiring crops like sugarcane and paddy. In the last 5-6 years, the trend of urad cultivation has increased here. The reason behind this is the efforts of the government. Urad seeds are provided to the farmers by the Agriculture Department at high subsidy.
emphasis on crop diversification
The Agriculture Department is promoting Kharif crops growing in less water in these areas. The department expects that the area under cultivation of nutritious coarse cereals will increase in Bundelkhand region. The effort of the central government is also on increasing the cultivation and use of coarse cereals. At the same time, it is also helping in crop diversification. In addition to paddy and wheat, cultivation of pulses and oilseeds crops is being emphasized in Kharif as well as Rabi season.
