GI tag is given to a particular product.
In every field, a product is known for its uniqueness and becomes the identity of that region. In many cases, it takes decades, sometimes even centuries, for a particular product of a particular region to make its mark. GI tag is given to the same product, which is made or found in a particular area.
By getting the GI tag, it is known that this thing is found in that particular area. Like Alphonso mango of Maharashtra. Once recognized, exports increase. Farmers get benefits when there is a product related to agriculture. Similarly, if the manufactured product gets the GI tag, the people making that product get the benefit.
