The second wave of corona seems to be decreasing now, but its third wave is expected to come in 6 to 8 weeks. The changing variants of this virus are causing concern. After the delta variant of the virus, now its new variant has increased the concern. It has been named ‘Delta Plus’ or ‘AY.1 Variant’.
Virologists are concerned about this new variant made from the ‘delta’ variant of Corona and are emphasizing on its study. Recently, the central government has accepted that the new variant of Corona is very close to the previous Delta variant. The Ministry of Health has stated that there exists a variant of AY.1 corona virus which is an evolved form of the delta variant of corona virus.
What is Delta Plus variant?
A new variant of the corona virus ‘Delta Plus’ is an evolved form of the Delta variant. Earlier the Delta variant was found. In the second wave of Corona, most people fell victim to this delta variant. According to scientists, the Delta variant itself has evolved to become Delta Plus. The central government is constantly monitoring this.
Experts related to the government say that studies are still being done regarding the transition of new variants in India. It has been said by the government that ‘mutation is a biological fact and we have to adopt ways to prevent it. We need to take all precautions, so that it can be stopped from spreading.
How was this Delta Plus variant made?
The delta variant i.e. the mutation of the B.1.617.2 strain has resulted in a delta plus variant. This mutation is being called K417N. There have been slight changes in the spike protein of the coronavirus, that is, in the old variant, due to which a new variant has emerged. With the help of spike protein, the virus enters our body and infects us. It is also part of the virus. Due to the K417N mutation, the virus is able to trick our immune system.
Why do mutations occur in viruses?
According to Dr AK Varshney, Senior Physician at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi, whatever be the virus, it always keeps changing its genetic structure. When it changes its structure, we give it a new name. There is a kind of fight in this. Like we want to eliminate the virus and it changes its form and comes again. The virus keeps on making such changes in itself that it can avoid the vaccine or medicine that is being given.
How to protect against new variants of the virus?
In an interview program of All India Radio, Dr Varshney said, “Delta Plus is in discussion after the delta virus of Corona, no separate measures have to be taken to avoid this variant. Only the same precautions have to be taken, which are being taken till now. Mask is to be used. Hands have to be kept clean. Take care of physical distancing and do not leave the house unnecessarily.
Is the vaccine effective on the new variant?
Dr Varshney says that the vaccine we are applying so far is also effective on variants. Because the virus is new and the genetic structure is also new, then in the coming time it will be known how effective the vaccine is. Along with this, how many antibodies remain in the body or how the virus changes its form. Many times viruses are destroyed by genetic changes in this way. The SARS corona virus (Sars Cov 1) was over like this. Therefore, it cannot be said that always when the virus makes changes, there is only a danger. Rather, sometimes they become weak too.
