Method of celebrating Vijayadashmi festival
On the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month, there is a victory period when the star rises in the evening, hence it is called Vijayadashami (Vijay Dashmi 2021) or Dussehra 2021. This year this date is on Friday, October 15, 2021. It is believed that when Lord Rama’s wife Mata Sita was kidnapped by Ravana, the king of Lanka, then according to the instructions of Narad Muni, Lord Shri Ram fasted for nine days of worship of Shakti, pleased Bhagwati Durga, obtained the boon of victory. And climbed Ravana’s Lanka. On this Ashwin Shukla Dashami day, Rama killed Ravana and won. Since then this date was celebrated as Vijayadashami.
Special worship of Goddess Aparajita
There is a law of Aparajita worship and Shami worship on the day of Vijayadashami. According to Skanda Purana, when Dashami is combined with Navami, Aparajita Devi should be worshiped on Dashami Tithi in the north-east at noon for the wish of victory and well-being. For this, first of all, making a group of eight angles with sandalwood at the holy place, one should make a resolution – ‘Mama Sakutumbasya Kshemsiddhayartha Aparajita Pujan Karishye’. After this, Aparajita should be invoked in the middle of that figure. At the same time, Jaya and Vijaya should be invoked on the right and left sides. After this, Shodashopachar worship should be performed with the mantras ‘Aparajitayai Namah Jayayai Namah Vijayayai Namah’. When you have done the worship, then pray that – ‘O Goddess, you can go to your place by accepting the worship I have done for your protection as much as you can.
Worship Shami tree too
After worshiping Aparajita, the Shami tree should be worshiped in the north-east. In the scriptures, the meaning of Shami is said to be the destroyer of enemies. To worship the Shami tree, a coin of rice, betel nut and copper is kept below it. Then after circumambulating the tree, they bring soil and some leaves home near its root.
