Durga Navami 2021: Significance

According to the legend, Mother Durga was created by Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh and other deities from their collective energy. Mata Durga was created to slay the demon Mahishasura as she was creating terror and no one was able to drive her away.

Mata Durga is depicted riding a lion with eight or ten arms. He was given special weapons by all the gods for his fight against the buffalo demon Mahishasura.

He is holding these weapons in each of his arms. He is the purest form of Shakti, his powers are limitless.

Durga Navami is the last day of the war between Mata Durga and the demon Mahishasura. Goddess Durga is worshiped as Mahishasurmardini on the day of Maha Navami as she killed the demon Mahishasura on this day.

Durga Navami is celebrated as the victory of good over evil. The next day is celebrated as Vijayadashami which means the tenth day of victory.
