To boost the domestic defense industry, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has allowed private sector firms to develop and produce missile systems. These include the Vertical Launch Surface to Surface Air Missile System Program. Senior DRDO officials say that under the Development cum Production Partner (DCPP) program, we have allowed the private sector to develop and then produce missile systems with us.
According to the report by news agency ANI, DRDO officials say that private sector companies have shown great enthusiasm to participate and have come forward for the vertical launch Surface to Surface Air Missile System Program (VL-SRSAM) project. This effort is part of the Narendra Modi government’s initiative to prepare the private sector industry to be able to develop complex military systems under the Make in India project.
All-weather air defense missile systems are being developed to target all air targets such as jets, fighter aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles. Canister based State of Weapon System will be able to identify, track, engage and destroy targets, which have a strike range of about 40 km. DRDO has helped private sector industries including Tata and Baba Kalyani Industries to develop ATAGS howitzers, which will be the main artillery guns for the Indian Army over the next several decades.
DRDO developed a low-weight bulletproof jacket
Earlier, the DRDO had said that its Laboratory Defense Material and Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE) in Kanpur has developed a low-weight bulletproof jacket weighing only nine kilograms. This jacket will help in fulfilling the quality requirements of the Indian Army. The Front Hard Armor Panel ‘(FHAP) jacket was tested at the Terminal Ballistic Research Laboratory (TBRL) in Chandigarh and BIS standards were achieved. The importance of this important development lies in the fact that each gram reduction in the weight of the jacket provides relief to the soldiers while ensuring the safety of the soldiers. Through technology, the weight of medium-sized bulletproof jackets has been reduced from 10.4 kg to nine kg.
