Center’s free ration scheme till 30 November
Let us inform that there is no proposal of the Central Government to extend the distribution of free ration under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana beyond 30 November. At the same time, Union Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said on Friday that in view of the improvement in the country’s economy and good sale of food grains in the open market under the OMSS policy, there is no proposal to extend free ration distribution through PMGKAY from November.
The scheme was launched for the 3 months of April-June 2020
It is worth noting that this announcement of PMGKAY was made in March, 2020 to overcome the crisis caused by COVID-19. Initially, this scheme was started for 3 months of April-June 2020, but later the scheme was extended for 5 more months (July-November 2020) as the crisis continued. At the same time, PMGKAY was once again implemented for two months (May-June 2021) at the start of the second wave of the corona epidemic and then extended for 5 months (July-November 2021).
